Merkley: Trump’s Withdrawal from Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement Fails Our Communities

Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration withdrawing from the Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement (RCBA):

“The Columbia River is the lifeblood of our region, and President Trump’s outrageous approach to the basin will leave our communities worse off. We have long-overdue obligations to all those who call the Columbia Basin home, particularly the Tribes who have been stewards of the region since time immemorial. The Trump Administration is wrong to tear up this carefully crafted agreement between Oregon, Washington, and these Tribes. I won’t stand for this approach that fails our local economy, dishonors the sovereignty and leadership of Tribes, and undermines renewable energy production to help us meet our clean energy goals.”
